This project develops electronic systems embedded in lightweight AFP-fabricated composite structures. The research investigates advanced additive manufacturing and component interconnection technologies to incorporate electronic functions within mechanical 3D structures, focusing on the analysis and optimisation of material characteristics and processability, electromagnetic behaviour, fabrication quality, system reliability, and performance in the microwave radio frequency spectrum. Additive fabrication techniques enable new opportunities for designing electronic systems with complex geometries and high levels of conformality, improved weight and space efficiency, and reduced expenses of material and manufacturing infrastructure.
